據報道，今年7月新南威爾士州衛生局在嚴重腸胃炎疫情后發出了警告。在疫情最嚴重的階段，腸胃炎病例的數量超過了感冒季節高峰期的流感病例數量，從6月初開始至7月20日，有超過3300人到醫院急診。
新南威爾士大學的研究人員發現，此次疫情是由三種新型諾如病毒造成。研究人員Jennifer Lun稱，其中兩種是由此前的“Sydney 2012”病毒和其它病毒演變成的新病毒，第三種病毒最有可能是來自亞洲。
