據外媒報道，最近肆虐美國的沙門氏菌疫情已蔓延到30個州，至少341人被感染，造成2人死亡。
加州圣地亞哥有19人感染，其中一位99歲的女性因感染沙門氏菌去世。9月9日衛生官員表示，證實8月份下旬當地一位婦女也因感染沙門氏菌而死亡，是該次事件中的第二個死亡案例。
美國疾病控制預防中心（CDC）表示，圣地亞哥的Andrew and Williamson Fresh Produce公司從墨西哥進口的一批黃瓜傳染了沙門氏菌（Salmonella），并已經開始召回于8月1日到9月3日期間售出的這批黃瓜。
