據報道，禽流感已經導致美國大量雞和火雞感染病毒被宰殺。美國勞工部（Labor Department）15日表示，雞蛋的批發價格上漲84.5%。超市里一打雞蛋的零售價格6月份曾飆升至一打超過3美元。
去年12月份美國爆發的疫情主要是由沿密西西比河、太平洋而來的野生候鳥傳染給當地禽類，其中明尼蘇達州和愛荷華州最為嚴重。

The outbreak of avian flu caused wholesale prices for eggs to jump 84.5 percent in June, the Labor Department said Wednesday. The spike comes amid otherwise tame inflation across the rest of the economy. The producer price index, which measures the costs of goods and services before they reach consumers, increased 0.4 percent in June. Over the past 12 months, producer prices have actually fallen 0.7 percent due to lower oil and gasoline costs. Wholesale gas prices rose 4.3 percent last month but are down 30.3 percent from a year ago. Core prices, which exclude energy and food, rose 0.3 percent in June.
